PHUKET: More than 1000 passengers were stranded at Phuket International Airport tonight as all flights in and out were cancelled because of today's tsunami alert for Phuket and the Indian Ocean rim.
All over Phuket, resort guests and managers were anxiously awaiting news on when flights would resume after the day's alert was lifted.
Phuket airport general manager Wing Commander Prathuang Somkhom said at 9.40pm that he was hoping Thai Airways and AirAsia would send aircraft from Bangkok to Phuket before midnight tonight to get the people stranded at the airport moving.
Many others have opted to stay on Phuket and try their luck with alternative flights tomorrow, when full services are expected to resume from early morning.
