A bus slips off Karon Hill tonight but is held safe by a guard rail

Phuket Bus Slides Off Karon Hill in Wet: Passengers Stuck

Friday, November 27, 2015
PHUKET: A bus carrying many passengers slipped off the wet road over Karon Hill about 8pm tonight, leaving people waiting at the roadside for an alternative form of transport. Phuketwan believes big buses and trucks should be banned and Public Transport officials should make Phuket a minivan only destination.

You're right. This is just far too commonplace.

Barely a day goes by without one of these claptraps breaking down on either Patong or Karon hill. A menace to their occupants and other drivers.

So called Public Transport will be approving 100's more of giant tour busses in the near future you better believe....the Chinese hordes need to be served....

Total guesswork and a foolish piece of speculation.

Phuket tour busses are indeed to big, to high.
For island tours you don't need this '2 high floor level' busses.
The lower floor luggage compartments are hardly used during island tours, and passenger just sitting on the top floor make the busses unstable on the Phuket roads which are not suitable for this kind of bus.

They will never banned.. A Thai friend of mine just sign a contract to buy 20 second hand bus to serve chinese tours on Iland for 5 years... Listened the money involved is very good business.. safe a part!

Your friend may find himself with a lot of useless buses. Most of the buses for the Chinese market are being booked off the island, because local providers fail the test. For safety reasons and to beat traffic problems, minivans are Phuket's answer.

Kurt's right, double-decker buses are especially a risk & more likely to hit trees, power cables etc.

The track record for mini busses and coaches is bad enough, something this tall and top heavy for Phuket's roads terrain and environment is not well thought out, doubt they thought about parts supply and maintenance of these veh types either, as Jimbo states there on the side of the road often.

Come on now. Abselutely no busses over the hills. Only use vans. Supply truks should only pass the hills when roads are dry, and in periods where there is only low traffic.

How stupid can one be to suggest that minivans are a safe way to travel.

Editor Comment:

Minivans are far safer and less of a danger than large buses, Rene. Perhaps you drive, as some others do, with your eyes closed? It's the drivers, stupid.
