POLICE in Patong say they have cracked down on touts and ladyboy katoeys during the current visit by US Navy personnel and Marines.
Colonel Nikorn Chootong said that there had been between 15 and 20 arrests each night for aggressive touting along Soi Bangla and Patong's other bar streets.
Usually the arrival of American service contingents produced an invasion of ladyboys from other parts of Thailand but there had been very few additional arrivals for the visit of the amphibious assault ship USS Peleliu.
Colonel Nikorn said that touts had been restricted to five for each nightclub, and that arrests and repeated fines had diminished the number of ''out of towners.''
