A woman lies on the road in Patong after a failed bag snatch today

Patong Bag Snatch Fails But Victim Falls Off Bike Outside Jungceylon

Monday, August 19, 2013
PHUKET: The woman in the photograph above was knocked from her motorcycle on Phuket about 12.30am in a robbery gone wrong.

Two men on a motorcycle came alongside the woman as she rode along the road behind Jungceylon shopping mall in Patong about 12.30am.

The man on the back of the motorcycle attempted to steal a shoulder bag the woman was carrying. In trying to grab the shoulderbag, the woman toppled from her motorcycle.

The would-be thieves rode off. A woman who saw the incident, a Phuketwan reader, took the photo.

She said the victim was dazed, but pleased to have kept her bag. As a witness, she said the incident convinced her that she should look for work in a safer place.

Phuketwan was not able to get an answer from Patong police to ask whether the crime was reported.

Thefts after midnight very common, in our resort an average of 3 thefts reports per month from guests returning from a night out to Holiday Inn Resort.
All incidents are reported to Patong police.
Hopefully some of the additional 700 police man will start patroling Patong roads after midnight to early morning.

Does anyone else find it disturbing that the observer's first reaction was to pull out a camera and take a picture of the victim, rather than going to help her.
