Officials Record 15,000 Complaints Against Taxi Drivers

Friday, July 25, 2014
BANGKOK: The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has reported that more than 15,000 complaints have been made against taxi drivers via the hotline 1584 during the first half of 2014.

The number one complaint mentioned on the hotline is the taxi drivers' refusal to pick up passengers, closely followed by rude behavior, reckless driving, dropping passengers off before reaching their destinations, and refusal to switch on the fare meter.

Director-General Adsathai Rattanadilok Na Phuket stated that the DLT has requested all taxi operators to submit a profile of their drivers so that background checks could be made. Through this procedure, it would be easier to keep track of taxi drivers with poor driving etiquette in order to increase public safety.

Mr. Adsathai also requested members of the public to always check the taxi drivers' ID for scrutiny.

Anybody who feels concerned about their own safety or would like to make complaints from using taxi services can call the hotline 1584 around the clock.

15k complaints but how much action taken? Itake it this doesn't include the number of times phones were hung up on hearing a foreign voice!

So we've to try and check the taxi drivers ID ,that could no doubt lead to a few altercations of the violent kind .These taxi/tuk tuk drivers are still a law unto themselves by the time any tourist or local has tried to contact the help line or get help they could end up in the local hospital beaten to a pulp as has been the normal procedure with these thugs on innocent customers why aren't the police carrying out more spot checks on these drivers to ensure they are using legal sealed meters if they have them or are charging the correct prices rather than letting them amass 15000 complaints from the clearly disgusted public

As I said before Dashboard Cameras operating 24/7 should be used to record the driving/audio and to also protect the Passenger and Driver in case of a Dispute.
This will be HARD evidence that cannot be refuted

Yes, certainly Mr Ree - it should read more like 150,000 calls counting the slam-downs of phones when encountering a 'foreign' tongue at the other end of the call.

Mister Ree and Sam WIlco, maybe you should learn to speak Thai. What country do you think this is?

Matt - it's 'Wilko' not Wilco by the way.

I speak fluent Thai - whatever makes you think that I don't? I was commenting on foreigners trying to get their complaints across.

And how is your Thai, Matt?
