Nok Air Flight to Bangkok Halts on Phuket Before Takeoff

Nok Air Flight to Bangkok Halts on Phuket Before Takeoff

Tuesday, October 28, 2014
PHUKET: A Nok Air flight to Bangkok was halted during a taxi run towards its takeoff point on Phuket today, officials at Phuket International Airport said. The aircraft halted on the runway when the crew detected a possible mechanical issue before making a turn to take off, Phuketwan was told this afternoon. Nok Air declined to comment.

I happened to be a passenger on this flight,, which was scheduled for 11.20 and then delayed until 12.30 . The flight was in full throttle on the runway and picking up speed when suddenly the pilot was forced to brake . The sharp jolt certainly startled a number of passengers , and a number decided to disembark when it pulled into the holding bay; this despite the Pilot's announcement he needed ten minutes to determine the problem. Eventually the flight was cancelled and alternative flights were arranged. The ground crew did their best ; however I am highly critical of the flught crew's response. It took ages for the Pilot to apologise and advise passengers, whilst the cabin crew clearly were unable to handle passenger's concerns. Nok Air has an obligation to respond to your query and I believe has some serious customer relations training to do.

Editor Comment:

The difference between a halt to the flight while taxiing towards takeoff and a halt after takeoff has commenced is huge, so it really does require Nok Air and the Phuket International Airport managers to provide accurate information to the authorities. Everything to do with safety on aircraft is tightly controlled. Nok Air should be totally honest or suffer the consequences of a distrustful flying public. We hope Nok supply an accurate version of events. We would have expected one would have been made available before now.

Poor communications (aka 'head in the sand' syndrome) appears to be a trait... The former One-2-Go were poor in their communications in time of a crisis; TG similarly so (paint the logo, no-one will notice). I have to say quite a few years back Bangkok Airways had an issue on a landing in Samui (not a crash, but nearly) and their response, communications-wise to the media/ public, was fantastic. Something other Thai airlines clearly could learn from.

Once I was flying off Taveuni is. on Fiji to the main island to Nadi.
The airport was just two umbrellas, with no control whatsoever on luggage and tickets.
Small-to-medium sized aircraft landed about the time of take-off , and after passengers disembarked the whole passengers crowd mover to embark on a flight, so did I.
Islanders proceeded with intensive GoodBye procedure , that incl.tears etc., as it is quite rare when travel around.
When the aircraft has been already accelerating on a runaway an announcement of the crew came that it is going to Suva, that is on the opposite side of the main island to Nadi.
In that small aircraft pilot door was open so I able quickly explain to them the situation, that I've boarded the wrong flight, and they have managed to brake really abruptly, and then return the aircraft to the "terminal", with no harm.
My aircraft landed a bit later , but islanders had to go repeatedly through GoodBye ritual.

I was also on this flight, I disagree, I thought the crew handled it very well...
