PHUKET: The Royal Thai Navy took part in a dramatic helicopter airlift at the weekend that brought an injured seaman to shore for urgent medical attention.
At midnight on Saturday, the captain of the 4999 tonne oil palm tanker Chao Anoma put in a call to the Deputy Managing Director of Bangkok-based AMA Marine, Pisan Ratchakitprakarn.
One of the tanker's engineers, Pariwat Chuadchum, had sustained serious rib injuries in the engine room and needed rapid medical assistance.
The Navy swung into action and the captain of the tanker, heading to Burma from Malaysia, changed course while off Phuket for Surin island.
The Navy chopper arrived there on Sunday morning and at noon, the transfer of Khun Pariwat was complete.
He was given medical attention as the helicopter carrier him to Vachira Phuket Hospital in Phuket City, where he was admitted.
