PHUKET: A Phuketwan reader has drawn our attention to a video posted on YouTube involving time-share touts.
It appears to show two expat touts in conversation with a potential customer in what seems to be beach road, Patong.
The touts say their boss is ''the Mayor of Patong'' and that he is ''the law.''
The touts say they have work permits but do not need to carry the permits with them.
Any connection between time-share touts and the Mayor of Patong, Pian Keesin, would come as a surprise.
In 2011, the Patong Municipal Council orchestrated a public campaign with billboards placed in strategic locations in reaction to complaints about time-share touts and the post-contract service of some operators.
It's also unlikely that the mayor, as an elected official, would retain any direct connection with a business.

I dont understand, I thought the Keesin family were owners of many time shares? How can Phuketwan say that the family were unlikely be connected with any business when they also own many businesses and are opening an 800 room hotel?

You need glasses, JJ. What we wrote was: ''It's also unlikely that the mayor, as an elected official, would retain any direct connection with a business''.
