PHUKET: A man travelling south to get medical attention at a hospital on Phuket never will reach his destination - he died yesterday when a car ran off a road and struck a tree.
Fate permanently interrupted the hopes of Suwat Kamaranont, 64, yesterday as he rode through Takuapa, in the province of Phang Nga north of Phuket, in a car driver by his employee, Eakkasit Boontham, 35.
''As they rounded a curve in rain about 7.10am on the way to Phuket, Khun Eakkasit lost control and the left side of the car slammed into a tree,'' said investigating officer Major Korkiat Boonplod.
''Khun Suwat died as rescuers were trying to cut him free from the wreckage.''
The pair were heading for Bangkok Hospital Phuket, where Khun Suwat hoped to be treated for a complaint. Instead, his body was being taken home to Ranong province today.
Khun Eakkasit was being treated in a local hospital for a head injury.

More roadway carnage... Global statistics kinda point towards this place having the crappiest drivers in the world, and I think they do.
