UPDATE Two Rescued Phuket Divers to be Deposited Safely in Another Country

UPDATING All Day, Every Day

DIVERS A-sang Sae-lor, 31, from Phuket, and Chinese tourist Huaqiu Ji, 25, are safe on a cargo ship, the vessel's captain reported on Friday night, and the two are to be dropped at the Malaysian port of Toklang about noon on Saturday - without entry visas or passports.

Original Report

PHUKET: Two divers, missing from speedboat on a day-trip outing to Racha island from Phuket, have been safely picked up by a cargo ship some distance from where they were last seen, Marine Police said today.

It's believed that a party of Thai tourists hired a speedboat and crew to take them to Racha for the day yesterday.

Some Chinese tourists asked if they could join them.

Confusion on the return trip meant that two divers were not on the speedboat when it returned to Phuket, Phuketwan was told today.

A Malaysian cargo vessel picked up the two misplaced divers - one Thai and one Chinese - some distance from where they were diving off Racha.

The condition of the two rescued divers is not yet known. They are still on the cargo vessel and Marine Police are making arrangements to ensure their safe transfer.

They must have drifted pretty far. Toklang is in the Gulf of Thailand.

Their Diver Alert flags must have caught the wind to carry them that far adrift? At least they are not drowning stats.
