Women will have bays to park close to Phuket's airport terminal

Ladies, Start Your Engines: There's a Place for You at Phuket Airport

Thursday, August 7, 2014
PHUKET: Six bays close to the Phuket International Airport terminal are being reserved for ''Lady Parking'' to make women safer.

The new zone on Phuket is part of a nationwide campaign that has seen shopping malls and even the railway system accommodate special areas and carriages so women are better protected.

The special Phuket parking will be available to women travelling alone or with children under 12 years old.

At Bangkok's Suvarnabhumi Airport, the entire third floor of parking building 2 is now reserved for ''Lady Parking,'' with female security guards watching over 450 bays.

The official opening of the new service will mark HM The Queen's birthday on Tuesday, which is also Mother's Day.

Other airports will have similar special zones.

Authorities at Phuket airport say they intend to make sure that taxi drivers do not appropriate the key spaces, which are well-lit and highly secure.

The airport's new five-storey carpark is still under construction and due to open before November's tourism high season.

The new international terminal, which will boost the airport's handling capacity, is due to open in mid-2015.

While you are "marking" the lady spaces also add some for disabled & start issuing "Disabled-licences" to those who NEED one.

Like in many other countries.

It would be nice if there were some parking spaces for the rest of us as well! A multi-storey ready for high season isn't really a selling point- we need it now, High season does not affect 'normal' passengers who live here.

Having to take a taxi to the airport when one has a vehicle here is ridiculous, the sooner the multi storey opens the better as at present there is no guarantee of finding a space.

If you are lucky enough to find a space the chances of a flat tire due to 'mysterious circumstances' on return is not unusual in my experience.

Another good reason for letting your wife drive you and for getting a female private chauffeur ... the other good reason is that they drive more safely and less aggressively than men.

RE Sailor comment; Men drive more aggressively than women because of testosterone which also makes them commit the majority of violence. For this reason, the current fashion of choosing to have more male babies does not bode well for societies.

@ Sailor: Funny you should write that. I have been using the same lady meter taxi driver from & TO the airport for the past 3 years & have recommended her to others. She does drive well & is pleasant with it.

Excuse me. Look at the photo! What do you see? Yes,right, just green plated cars! Are they not skipping a first stage at airport parking?? Get all these green plated cars away from parking spaces, than phuket citizens ( thai and foreigners) can park again. Now the transport maffia still occupy all the parking space and chase you away with threath. They still 'run' that part of the airport. NCPO, please, take care of that now. Nice for ladies to have parking lots, but men want it too.

Excellent idea - keep all the lady drivers parked together so they only dent each other's cars whilst not having a clue how to park! And before you all get riled up - I am just joking! ;-)
