A security guard who said he was assaulted by police showed wounds yesterday

I Was Kicked While Kneeling by Phuket Policeman, Patong Disco Staffer Alleges

Saturday, June 13, 2015
PHUKET: A security guard at a Patong disco who claimed he was assaulted by an off-duty policeman went to the Phuket Damrungtam complaints office yesterday to formally register his grievance.

In a more detailed account of what allegedly took place outside Patong's Hollywood disco about 2am on June 10, Kamonchai Singkead, 29, told Phuket's ombudsman that he was on duty for checking weapons that night.

When a group of men approached - allegedly Lieutenant Sorapong Chookeaw and some colleagues in plain clothes - he was beaten up.

Told to kneel to deliver an apology while waiing, Khun Kamonchai said he was kicked in the head then assaulted with a beer bottle and an ashtray, inflicting wounds to his face and breaking two teeth.

The complaints office was told that friends took him to Phang Nga and Thap Put Hospital for fear that police would catch up with him later if he was taken to Patong Hospital.

Colonel Chaiwat Auikam, the Commander of Kathu Police Station, which oversees Patong, has transferred Lieutenant Sorapong to Phuket City Police Station for 30 days while the case is investigated.

He has urged observers and parties on both sides to keep an open mind about what had happened.

About 100 friends and staff colleagues protested on Thursday outside Hollywood in Patong's Soi Bangla tourist walking street about the alleged assault.

There was a video of some of this incident doing the rounds on Facebook yesterday. Totally disgusting behaviour by the policeman. He deserves to be charged and put in jail based on the contents of the video. I wonder if he will .....

William, your silly thoughtless comment - 'can't see any swellings on his lips or face'. And then the two ?? What are you trying to say??? That the guy is lying, that it never happened? Say something, imbecile. What if it's on the other side of his face. See the question marks? Just trying to be nice to you. Shouldn't have ? because it is a fact of you! So shallow man, best to just read and keep your thoughts to yourself.

I've seen this guys few times when visiting Holywood.
Overall, they always mega-friendly with regular patrons, whom they're able to recognize, but on few occasions still there were - to my opinion - unwarranted and unnecessary brutality by bouncers toward some patrons.
Back home< I think I've been to clubs and discos like ca. 1000 times, but any kinds of fight whatever I've seen may be 1-2-3 times: most patrosn are locals and regulars, who , probably, well aware of the protocol in the club, although there are so many people in a very drunk state, clubs are open until 6AM-10AM.. never seen police brutality in teh clubs either toward patrons or staffers.. and although vats majority of patrns are locals, still enough tourist who fly low cost Th.-Fr. from Uk, Ireland etc. for ac heap alcohol and hope to o get some entertainment, still no excesses, neither vs. locals, nor between tourists or with a staff.

Sue,
They probably were nice to you because they recognised you from your pictures on Phuketwan.
