PHUKET: A German man on a bus bound for Phuket from Bangkok found himself under arrest in a town north of Phuket today without him even getting off the bus.
Another foreigner who alighted from the same bus in Chumpon, a province further north, told police that he had been robbed of his passport and telephone on the bus, and he figured the German man was the prime suspect.
Authorities in Takuapa, a town in Phang Nga, the province north of Phuket, boarded the bus and questioned the German.
The other foreigner's passport and telephone were found in his possession.
'Yes,'' the German man said. ''I picked up the telephone and the passport off the floor, and didn't see the bus conductor around, so I thought I would go to police on Phuket with the items.''
Police were continuing to question the German man tonight.
