Island locals passed on the request for a tsunami warning tower to the Governor of Phang Nga, Prayoon Rattanasenee, when he visited he visited Koh Yao today.
Then at 6.15pm came the latest earthquake, 10 kilometres deep at latitude 7.81 longitude 98.52.
Because the quaking fault line is just five kilometres from the island, Koh Yao needs its own tower, the residents said.
''We can feel the shakes and see what's happening during the day but tremors at night are more of a concern,'' a local told the governor.
Today's minor tremor is the latest in a lengthening list of shakes that briefly gave some Phuket people the jitters earlier this week when the first earthquake early on Wednesday was followed by a couple more.
The larger quakes have been felt on Phuket, Krabi, and on mainland Phang Nga. Although close to Phuket, Koh Yao is part of Phang Nga.

The only working and the proper one - tsunami tower I have seen at "The Racha" resort at Racha Yai is.
With last minutes rates as high as 14,000THB in June for beach beachfront, one may expect that they care about patrons - so they do.
But in Phang Nga a tsunami tower&station, once built after tsunami, is ready for final round of brick removals.
