PHUKET: An Iranian and a Frenchman have been arrested and charged with stealing a large amount of money from safes at two Phuket resorts, Phuketwan has learned this afternoon.

Police are still counting the money in different types of currency.

The arrests at Baan Tonsai Gardens Resort in Patong follow a media conference earlier in the day on Phuket in which two Belarus men were accused of skimming one million baht using fake ATM card in Bangkok and another 100,000 baht in Phuket.

Mikalai Ramankou and Siarhei Bandarkou, both 35, were arrested after Siam Commercial Bank officials in Rawai reported them using ATMs in the district in unusual patterns.

Police found eight cards discarded in a toilet when the pair were arrested at Rawai beach Hotel about 5.30pm yesterday.

More of those quality tourists we keep hearing about? Definitely a new kind of tourist, they stay at a resort then rob the safe before leaving. A holiday where you actually return with more cash than you left with. Hopefully a diet of fish head soup and pig intestines over rice will reform them over the coming years.

I wish Thailand would hurry up and improve the security of their ATM cards. How many more stories are not reported. I don't keep any money in my ATM account just transfer before I go to the ATM. I personally know one person that has been scammed.

On holiday for one month, been coming 11years.
Had 150,000 baht taken over several days this week after using aforementioned bank. Our Bank fortunately has reinstated funds. Shall we advise local police we asked? They said,"No don't bother, nothing will happen if you do"!
In future we will transfer funds to empty account and then visit ATM.
Land of Smiles- mmm not so much these days!!

Why is thailand one of the few countries that doesnt have cover flaps over the pin pads on Atms also why do they always give you the cash first before the card then you walk away without the card having taken the cash I know so many people having lost cards this way me being one of them only to get the poker face at siam bank when i ask about retreaving my card most other countries Atms give you card then cash because your not going to leave without taking your cash
