A TEENAGE Australian girl is believed to have been seriously injured in a freak mishap at Yacht Haven Marina late yesterday.

Khringsak Khaweekhet, manager of the marina, told Phuketwan that a Thai worker broke a leg in the same incident.

Khun Khringsak was away from the marina at the time but staff told him that the mishap occurred about 5pm as an elite superyacht manoeuvred alongside the pier to dock.

According to reports, the tethering rope suddenly tensed, pulling free from a metal stanchion and hitting the girl and the man.

Ambulances took both to Bangkok Hospital Phuket, where the girl was believed to be in a serious condition on life support today.

The hospital was not able to provide details because the girl's family has requested privacy.

Khun Khringsak said that the Russian owner of the vessel had volunteered to pay all expenses involved in the treatment of both injured people.
