''We would bring top-level educators from France to help with training in consultation with one of the universities - Prince of Songkhla or Rajabhat - on Phuket,'' Mr De Crissey said at Phuket Provincial Hall.
About 650,000 French citizens visited Thailand each year and many of them came to Phuket and the Andaman coast, Mr De Crissey said. Up to 15 people a day used the consular services on Phuket.
He noted that not all of them came with good intentions - four French citizens are in Phuket Prison on ATM skimming charges.
The governor asked what problems were experienced by French expats living on Phuket and Mr De Crissey said not much troubled them - but Immigration queues at Phuket International Airport could vary a lot.
Mr De Crissey said there was need for disaster planning on the island in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami and the governor said he would pass on the Phuket evacuation plan.
The governor has yet to schedule a meeting with the island's honorary consuls. The meetings were held every three months for several years but discontinued by his predecessor.
The result is that the governor will most likely be visited by many of the 20 or so consuls individually rather than meeting them all at once every three months and conveying the same information to them all.
Keep up the good work, Monsieur Claude.
