The French honorary consul meets Phuket's governor yesterday

France Plans Resort Management School With Phuket University

Wednesday, December 10, 2014
PHUKET: France hopes to start a hotel management school on Phuket to support the tourism industry, French honorary consul Claude De Crissey said yesterday at a meeting with Governor Nisit Jansomwong.

''We would bring top-level educators from France to help with training in consultation with one of the universities - Prince of Songkhla or Rajabhat - on Phuket,'' Mr De Crissey said at Phuket Provincial Hall.

About 650,000 French citizens visited Thailand each year and many of them came to Phuket and the Andaman coast, Mr De Crissey said. Up to 15 people a day used the consular services on Phuket.

He noted that not all of them came with good intentions - four French citizens are in Phuket Prison on ATM skimming charges.

The governor asked what problems were experienced by French expats living on Phuket and Mr De Crissey said not much troubled them - but Immigration queues at Phuket International Airport could vary a lot.

Mr De Crissey said there was need for disaster planning on the island in the aftermath of the 2004 tsunami and the governor said he would pass on the Phuket evacuation plan.

The governor has yet to schedule a meeting with the island's honorary consuls. The meetings were held every three months for several years but discontinued by his predecessor.

The result is that the governor will most likely be visited by many of the 20 or so consuls individually rather than meeting them all at once every three months and conveying the same information to them all.

Like ousted a few years ago i'm personally, in principle, not in favor of school segregation based on nationalities. This based on the fact that I prefer an international touristic island as Phuket to concentrate, in principle, on Thai and English.
However this new, Hotel Management School, concept from Khun Claude de Grissey I see as a Very, yes very Positive one. This based on several facts. Firstly Knowing Khun Claude a little bit I Do Know his works, objectives, services, intention's, knowledge, skills, qualities, morality and HIGH quality standards (and more flattering facts to mention but I don't want to make this as an advertisement for Khun Claude's Hotel) at all times stands for High Quality and High Service grade. I have no doubt if "Monsieur" de Grissey and his wife are backing, supporting and advicing such a (wanted/needed) quality scholing project on Phuket. PHUKET , Thailand, Tourism and so all Tourists visiting us incloding other Employers & all staff will benefit (all) from it.
Chapeau Khun Claude & thanks Governor for supporting this idea. I hope it will be realised. This will give Phuket Tourism a positive impuls. Without any doubt French and Suisse HOTEL scholing belongs to the Toppers on this globe.

@phuketgreed, if French and Swiss hotel schools are top in the world (to paraphrase), why is the service in French and Swiss hotels so poor?

Have to agree with ''LarryP''...

France is definetly not up there when you think of quality service and standards.... In the 16th Arr in Paris, most restaurants the Staff are standing outside smoking cigarettes or just standing about...

Hotels unless you are in 5 star, are all sub standard, They could learn a lot from Thailand for sure..

@ Larry & Robert. I'll not argue about your personal experiences. I base my opinion on knowledge and from observing several French & Suisse Hotel management schools. And I do believe that obtaining these standards here on Phuket will create a win win win situation. I do see your negatime comments only as frustrating the suggested positive intended approach. I encourage any improvement. Not (interested) in knowing what kind of places you normally stay I still do believe that a school-system like mentioned above is positive for tourism. I'm also aware that many from the better hotels on this island (for example the one in which I'm staying this week) have managers who provide far above average on time/money/education to their staff then common in Thailand. The fact their is obvious a lack of good Hotel Scholing around her should support a warm welcome what Khun Claude is trying to achieve.

Secondly Larry what makes you believe that the staff you talk about had any hotel-education.
We are talking here about creating the facilitation for good Scholing. And not about making it an obligation to attend but a possibility is a change to attend and get quality Scholing. You have anthill against such an oppertunity?
