PHUKET: A German former solider has been arrested and flown to the US to face charges as part of the gang of alleged international mercenaries headed by Joseph Manuel Hunter that is said to have operated from Phuket.

Michael Filter was extradited from Estonia where he had been arrested for conspiracy to import cocaine into the US and conspiracy to distribute cocaine on board an aircraft, according to a media report.

Filter's fellow defendants, Hunter, Timothy Vamvakias, and Dennis Gogel were previously arrested in Thailand (Hunter) and Liberia (Vamvakias and Gogel) and brought to the US in September 2013.

Another man, Slawomir Soborski was previously arrested in Estonia in September 2013 and was extradited to the US in April 2014, reported lawfuel.com.

Hunter rented a villa at the Phuket Country Club between allegedly making plans for international drug deals around the region and beyond.
