Flipflops mark the launching spot of an unusual bid for freedom today

Flip Flops Mark Fugitive Prisoner's Leap from Pickup in Phuket City

Thursday, July 17, 2014
PHUKET: Police in Phuket City are hunting a runaway prisoner wearing handcuffs who leapt and ran when a pickup stopped at a red light at an intersection about 1pm today.

Boonrit Boontang, 22, is barefoot - he left his flipflops behind when he jumped as the pickup was at lights in Damrong Road, quite close to Phuket Provincial Court.

Police from Thalang Police Station were transferring Khun Boonrit to be arraigned at the court on a charge of theft of a motorcycle.

With the cuffs on his hands behind his back, Khun Boorit may be considered unlikely to stay on the run for long.
