Five Phuket Pubs Closed in Police Nightlife Purge

PHUKET: PHUKET police closed five entertainment premises this month for not having the required permission and paperwork, a meeting heard today.

Between May 1 and May 22, police checked 146 pubs and other premises on Phuket and ordered five to close for 30 days, said a representative from the office of Phuket Police Commander Major General Pekad Tantipong.

Three were based in Chalong, one in Kathu and the fifth in Thalang, a meeting of local council leaders meeting at Provincial Hall in Phuket City was told.

Officers from the Phuket Governor's force also checked 34 premises in Phuket City, 37 in Kathu and eight in Thalang.

Police said there were 17 illegal guns seized on Phuket between May 1 and May 22, with three rapes reported in that period but no arrests.

A total of 47 arrests were made for prostitution, with one arrest for the sale of pornography.
