PHUKET: A fire at a small Patong hotel early today was quickly extinguished but left one tourist injured.
One fire truck took 20 minutes to put out the blaze at the Hollywood Beach Hotel in Sawadirak Road about 3.10am, a Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation spokesperson said today.
One man - believed to be an American - was treated for head injuries at Patong Hospital, Phuketwan was told.
The blaze started from an electrical fault in reception and smoke rising through the building forced staff to consider an evacuation.
Some tables were stacked outside the hotel in an effort to help guests to escape from above-ground floors. One report said that the American man slipped and fell while trying to climb down.
Some guests are believed to have checked out after the blaze.
