RIP young Man , far too young to have a life taken way.

I do hope there is also a full investigation into the death, as i have seen some of the Tuk Tuk's just turn out into the road or stop without a care who is behind them ( although i am not faulting that the young brit shouldn't have been drink driving and should have worn a helmet )

When will people learn that helmets save lives?
Just another statistic.

Poor guy...

Like you Bob i think they need to take a good look at the cause of the accident...I certainly won't assume because he had a drink that he was responsible for what happened...

I have had numerous run ins and close calls with Tuk Tuks, on beach road especially...They are very prone to just pulling out into traffic without looking, U turning or manouevring without a care for what is going on around them and dangerous driving practices in general...Often they seem to work on the principle that they do what ever they want and you must avoid them...

let's not all be in a rush to lynch the tuk tuk driver here - some of the worst drivers tend to be tourists (drunk or not) on motorbikes they are not used to driving!!

It does take some getting used to,..riding or driving in Thailand. One thing i learned is, you cant expect people to drive and give way like they do in your homeland. I expect people to pull out without looking and to be on the wrong side of the road etc, and you never know they could be holding an infant with their left arm. With this in mind and include drinking and no helmet , its a bad combination.

I once had a minor accident with someone who pulled out on me from a side street without looking and the thai policeman told me it was my fault because i was on the main road and it was my responsibility to watch for traffic pulling out...?????

Very sad to see another life lost.

While I really feel for this boy's family you have to ask the question, if your staying in Patong and also drinking in Patong why the hell do you need a motorbike ?

Anyone coming here on holiday, this boy was within walking distance of his hotel, forget bikes how ever appealing they look.

I think it's a given whilst in Thailand you drive ultra defensively, always expect the worst...But sometimes there are crazy things that others do on the road that you just can't legislate for...
