PHUKET: Police are hunting a major drugs dealer on Phuket after raiders uncovered drugs with a street value of five million baht and a hidden handgun last night.

A takeaway meal left on the table and an open rear door at a house in Srisuchart Grand View 5, Phuket City, led police to think gang members fled when they arrived about 11pm.

Less fortunate was a ''taxi driver'' who knocked on the door soon after and was greeted by police. He told the officers he wanted to leave his vehicle to be repaired.

''A likely story,'' they responded.

Earlier in the evening, a young man arrested for possession of a small amount of drugs pointed police in the direction of the Phuket City house.

Officers found 2.15 kilos of ya ice methamphetamine hidden in a section of piping. They also uncovered 1469 ya bah tablets and found handguns and 400 bullets hidden in a loudspeaker.

Police took possession of a car, a motorcycle, two small safes and various bits of drug-related paraphernalia.

Officers will be keen today to talk to the owner of the car and the motorcycle.
