Lieutenant General Walit Rojjanapakdee announced the check as he provided an update to the Phuket media after three months of the military being in control of Thailand. General Prayuth Chan-ocha took command on May 22.
''We will have authorities checking your place,'' was the lieutenant general's message to Phuket hoteliers about the coming week.
Some of Phuket's mayors and top police were at today's meeting along with Phuket Governor Maitree Intrusud and Vice Admiral Tharatorn Kajitsuwan, Commander of Royal Thai Navy 3.
The four issues discussed by Lieutenant General Walit were:
.. beach arrangements
.. law enforcement and making the process sustainable
.. cooperation between local authorities
.. following up the policies of the National Council for Peace and Order, the top military body.
He said he believed that more than 90 percent of people were happy with the arrangements now being made for adding meter taxis on Phuket and also with the beach arrangements.
''There is still some concern about the effects on the very poor on the beaches,'' he said. ''But there has been a good reaction from overseas about the cleaning up of the beaches.''
He added that it could yet be possible for parts of beaches to be zoned for use of sunbeds and umbrellas so the ''very poor'' derived an income.
No decision has been made but Phuket's three districts have been asked to register people who are poor who might be interested in working on the island's beaches.
The ''Phuket model'' would be used elsewhere in Thailand, he said. But people of influence - he avoided use of the word ''mafia'' - and drugs remained concerns.
The Royal Forest Department and National Parks were still conducting a crackdown on encroachers, he said.
Garbage remained a problem on Phuket with the island producing 700 tonnes a day and unable to dispose of it all.
On the island's road toll, he said that 134 people had been killed last year on Phuket's roads and the toll for 2014 so far stood at 36.
The very poor....none of the sun bed lounge people would come to very poor. They would be making 1000's per day.
