The leg bond from the fatal bungy jump is examined after the tourist died

Deadly Phuket Bungy Jump Demolished in Advance of Official Order

Wednesday, June 24, 2015
PHUKET: As Phuketwan forecast would happen before the end of the month, the Patong bungy jump where a tourist plunged to his death has been demolished.

The ''owner'' intends to turn the World Bungee Jump space to other use.

Phuketwan reported last week that the people who ran the jump had the choice of deciding in advance of an official demolition order to wreck the bungy of their own volition.

That's what happened earlier this week, Surapol Buakaew, the director of the servicing unit for Patong Council, confirmed today.

The thrill-seeker attraction had been operating without proper permits for more than a decade.

Patong police are awaiting the results of forensic tests in Bangkok on the bungy jump cord and its leg restraints before laying any charges over the death of Kuwaiti tourist Adel Kadhmbahman, 25, on May 27.

I hope that with the disappearance of this illegal business liability does not vanish too.

How long does it take to check a rope and leg restraints? In competent hands I'd guess about 15 minutes. The fact this place was running without permission or permits should be enough to have the owner charged. How could this owner be trusted to have proper safety in place given the short cuts he took everywhere else?

"Results of forensic tests in Bangkok on the bungy jump cord and its leg restraints before laying any charges "
The accident can only be caused by one issue as either the cord failed or the restraints failed or were not properly attached.

Let me help, if the cord is still in one piece it didn't fail.
If the cord is still attached to the restraints, the connection didn't fail and either the restraints were defective or they were not properly attached.

Was it demolished or just moved to another illegal location for another decade or until more deaths occur.

Editor Comment:

We didn't hear an explosion in the demolition so presumably, the jump tower could be being stored, sold for scrap . . . or reassembled somewhere, some time. There is no indication a rebuild on Phuket is likely.

Will the "owner" or his business be asked to pay income tax for this decade? Probably not - no license -> no tax debt.
