Phuket Governor Nisit Chansomwong has convened with the committee responsible for following updates on the prevention of road accidents during the New Year holidays in Phuket from December 30, 2014 to January 5, 2015.
The attendants together assessed the collected data which suggested that, as of January 4 or the sixth day of the dangerous period, there had been 39 road accidents within Phuket.
Forty people were admitted to hospitals after being injured on the road while two deaths were recorded.
The main causes of the accidents were drunk driving and sudden cutting in front of other vehicles.
In terms of law enforcement, 12488 cars were pulled over by authorities for inspection and there were 1588 cases of traffic law violations.
Most of such violations were failures to carry a driver's license and to wear seatbelts or helmets as well as driving under the influence.
Others include driving over the speed limit, running the red light, driving in the wrong lane, and using mobile phones while driving.

I've never seen anyone pulled over involving the above quoted laws in Phuket.
