PHUKET: As many as 80 extra minivans could be on Phuket's road on daily tours as Phuket entertains more than 15,000 visitors from Amway China for a month from next week.
The Amway incentive reward conference, with waves of guests visiting Phuket from April 16 to May 15, will centre on Phuket's Laguna Phuket destination resort but also utilise two other resorts, Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak was told yesterday.
The Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort and the Hilton Phuket Arcadia Resort and Spa will entertain guests as well as four of the seven Laguna Phuket resorts, the vice governor was told.
Representatives from Laguna Phuket met with the vice governor at Provincial Hall in Phuket City to sort final details of the extra-large group's visit, biggest of its kind for Phuket.
Vice Governor Somkiet made the point that email exchanges were no good. Letters needed to be sent to formalise requests and procedures ''in the government fashion.''
Motorcycle escorts have been requested for senior Amway officials on arrival and departure.
Vice Governor Somkiet said a request for foreworks at FantaSea on April 18 would need to be handled by FantaSea negotiating with its neighbors directly.
Each of the vehicles used to transfer Amway guests to speedboats for daily trips to Phi Phi, Phang Nga Bay and Koh Hey from Koh Sirey near Phuket City would need to carry appropriate signage, the vice governor said.
The visitors will enjoy incentive dinners and tours during their stay.

Being Chinese I just pray the drivers of their buses don't run into buildings, minivans on the loose and overturn going to Patong. May they all have a welcome stay here, as guests of Phuket.
