Well and truly plucked, SuperCheap chickens cover a Phuket road today

Chicken Flock Flies One Last Time as Pickup Crashes on Phuket

Friday, August 7, 2015
PHUKET: A pickup was deflocked as its load of chickens cascaded across Phuket's main road today in yet another single-vehicle crash on the holiday island.

The chickens, being transported south to the SuperCheap store in Phuket City from the neighboring province of Phang Nga, took flight one last time when the driver lost control of the pickup about 9am.

''The vehicle skidded across the road and crashed into a tree in the central safety strip,'' said Lieutenant Kaisorn Boonprasop, of Thalang Police Station. ''The driver simply said he lost control.''

The crash came as the pickup approached the t-junction in Thepkasattri Road leading to Phuket International Airport.

The chickens were loaded onto another pickup and were last sighted heading for the SuperCheap store.

I think it was not only their last flight, but also their first.

Enjoy your meal!

That's ok, a little bit of grit, they will be nice and tender though, you won't need cooking oil, old diesel road oil has a fine taste!

I have no doubt the chicken will be resold. High standards of hygiene are not exactly the strength of that particular retail chain.

I drove past this mess shortly after the crash. There were plastic bags full of chicken pieces all over the road. Many of the bags were being run over by vehicles trying to get past. Yuck! These bags of chicken parts were being transported in the back of a regular pickup truck. No refrigeration, no ice that I could see, no plastic coolers. To think that Super Cheap is having their chicken delivered in this way is shocking. Coming all the way from Phang Nga in the back of a pickup? I would not even think about buying any kind of meat or poultry from Super Cheap. Are there no health department regulations governing the handling of produce? I'm always shocked when I see the trucks driving around with a massive load of eggs in the back....on a 35 degree day! This is even worse.... Unrefrigerated poultry, that was picked off the road....Yuck!

Why did the chicken cross the road? To die in the rain ... that's how Hemmingway would have told it.
