Captain, Crew Plucked From Stormy Sea as Barge Sinks Off Phi Phi

Friday, August 21, 2015
PHUKET: The captain and a crewman who abandoned a barge as it sank on the way to Phi Phi were rescued yesterday and are recovering in Phi Phi Hospital.

The two men had a lucky escape when the 15 metre barge Ponboon Phi Phi Don 1 was swamped by high waves and went down about seven miles off mainland Krabi about 3.30pm.

The barge was carrying heavy construction equipment from Ao Nang to the popular tourist island.

Plucked from the sea by a passing squid boat, the men escaped with their lives but required observation.

Stormy conditions are forecast for Phuket and the Andaman holiday region extending into next week.

@ Bondi, Correct, I agree. No seamanship. Instead of brain, just air between the ears. Facts prove it.
