Fire drama springs to life off-screen in downtown Phuket Town

Blaze in Phuket Cinema: Audiences Evacuate Phuket Town Multiplex

Wednesday, February 22, 2012
PHUKET: A fire in a cinema in Phuket Town was brought under control tonight by four fire trucks after the Coliseum Multiplex near Robinson department store was evacuated.

Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha was on the scene as fireman brought the blaze under control in about 40 minutes.

The fire, according to first reports, broke out on the fourth floor, in Cinema 6, which was empty with no audience at the time, and spread to Cinema 5, which was under renovation.

Somebody smelled the smoke and raised the alarm, sparking an evacuation of Cinemas 1, 2, 3 and 4.

The cinema complex is in the same block as Ocean deaprtment store, opposite Robinson in what was once the retail heart of Phuket.

A cinema spokesperson said tonight that it was too early to suggest a figure on the damage done, or when the multiplex might reopen.

A Thai movie, 'Valentine,' was screening at some of the cinemas.

I am pleased no one was hurt, but I think it smells more fishy than smoke.

So Mr Ed and deputy Ed will be banned then, or maybe sent off on a long holiday.

Coming right up soon enough, Scunner. No more time to waste, though, on stuff that adds nothing.

Before your inuendo that something smelt fishy what is most important to this case is the fact that no one was killed or maimed. And thank god also no fireman was injured on the job. What if one of your family members got hurt in this scenario would you still say what you said, I totally agree with the editor. Also there is knock on effect that will put a strain on the employees in particular the jobs, what would happen if the building was totally gutted and no insurance I just wonder what your comment would have been if it were your job that was in this complex you certainly would not feel confident about your position in the cinema, WHAT DO YOU THINK

Cheers
Alex
