PHUKET: Malaysia will send a convoy of big bikers to represent the country at the Phuket Bike Week 2015, April 11-12.
Datuk Dr Ong Hong Peng, secretary-general, Ministry of Tourism and Culture, will flag off the convoy at a ceremony in Putrajaya April 10.
The bikers' mega event is hosted by Phuket, but the Malaysian convoy is keen to show fellow bikers attending the party that their home country, just a few hundred kilometres away, is a popular big bike destination too.
The group of 25 avid motor bike fans, media and travel agents are readly to rev up their high-powered bikes for the road trip from Putrajaya, Malaysia's political capital, on a route that will take them through Danok and Hat Yai and then north along the Andaman Sea coastal road to Phuket.
''Their presence will definitely turn heads, but it's all in the name of promoting Malaysia as a thrilling destination for road trips on two wheels,'' commented Tourism Malaysia officials.
To back up the convoy's promotional pitch, special motoring holiday packages have been developed by Tourism Malaysia under the theme, ''Malaysia Motorcycle Adventure and Holiday.''
