BOMB-making equipment was found in five rooms at the apartment. The suspect has been handed over to the Army, police said.
PHUKET: Police in Bangkok arrested a man who was in possession of bomb-making materials this afternoon that match the type used in the deadly Erawan Shrine bombing.
The arrest took place about 2pm. A Turkish passport identified the man as Adem Karadag, 28, although a number of fake passports were found.
About 100 officers sealed off an area of the Nong Chok district of Bangkok where they moved in on the PoonAnan Apartments.
Bomb-making equipment that police said matched the type used in the Erawan blast was discovered.
Police said the arrested man fitted the description of a man identified on security cameras as leaving a rucksack at the site of the blast in Bangkok.
National police spokesman Prawut Thavornsiri said the suspect ''looks like the one we are looking for.''
''They also found a lot of materials which can be used to make bombs,'' Prawut said.
The arrested man was taken for questioning to an unknown destination.
Police said they also found ''more than 10 passports.''
Police released some photographs of the arrest almost immediately.
A blast tore through a crowd at the Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok on August 17, killing 20 people and injuring more than 120 others in the largest attack in Thailand in years.
After questioning some 200 witnesses, police investigators are still unable to rule out any of the possible motives, said a senior police officer.
But at least one expert has said the bombing carries some of the hallmarks of the Grey Wolves, an ultra-nationalist group from Turkey who have staged protests over Thailand's decision to hand back some fleeing members of the Muslim Uighur ethnic group to China, where minorities are often mistreated.
Thirty victims of the Erawan bombing remain in hospital.
Wow they got lucky! I am totally skeptical!
