Baby Gammy, who helped change surrogacy laws, turns one year old

Baby Gammy, Who Helped Change Thailand's Surrogacy Laws, Turns One Year Old

Tuesday, December 23, 2014
Happy Birthday Gammy - One year old today!!

It has been a 12 months that few could imagine. Born into the international spotlight as a result of the actions of others, all of which have been well documented.

In early August his circumstances became known and his dire medical condition at the time, quickly caught the attention of people across the globe who were keen to support someone so young and so innocent.

So many generous people from across the globe responded without hesitation and as a direct result of this Gammy received medical treatment that he may not otherwise have had access to.

In the months that followed a lot of work was done in the planning of his and indeed his family's long term future. With the advice of international experts, a care plan was put in place.

A home was purchased for the family giving them space and importantly a healthy environment in which to grow.

No longer were they living in cramped conditions with the busy road only a metre or so from where Gammy played.

Goy and her family moved into their new home and quickly filled it with love and laughter.

It is such a beautiful home and offers wonderful opportunities for Gammy and his brother and sister.

Gammy has not been without further medical issues, and they will continue. But thanks to the generosity of so many, his loving family and a team committed to ensuring he receives the best care, we are confident he is in the best condition possible.

The team at Hands both in Thailand and Australia continue to work to support the family for their immediate and longer term needs.

There is much done in the background to secure the best outcome for the family guaranteeing them certainly and security.

The family has settled into their lives, and are enjoying the normality away from the media.

As the story fades and the international interest wanes Hands will be beside the family, because that is the long term commitment we make to ALL the children we support.

We collectively wish Gammy a happy 1st birthday and hope his next 12 months is less adventurous but filled with increasing health and happiness.

Happy birthday little fella.
