Roxanne in Rawai was hot last night . . . and a smouldering wreck today

Rawai Blaze: Razed Roxanne Rocks No More

Saturday, February 6, 2010
POLICE are investigating the cause of a blaze that destroyed the Roxanne Bar in the southern Phuket beachside village of Rawai early today.

Colonel Boonlert On-klang, of Chalong police station, told Phuketwan today that neighbors called about 3am to say that the bar was on fire.

The bar was in a freestanding building, about 300 metres uphill towards Nai Harn from the offices of the Rawai tessaban council on the beachfront.

Damage was estimated at one million baht. It is believed a Thai woman and her Danish husband ran the bar.

The bar had closed at 2am as usual, Colonel Boonlert said. Police have yet to rule out the possibility that the blaze was deliberately lit.

One reviewer described Roxanne as ''One of the most beautiful bars in Rawai, intelligently designed, managed by a Thai.''

One of the most beautiful bars in Rawai.

My god, what the hell are you talking about? Just another blot on the landscape of a diying Rawai village.

Editor: The review, translated into English, was taken from an online site offering a French perspective on several of Rawai's bars. The author appears to enjoy bar life.

I am sorry for the owners but they should get rid of a few more of those rat holes that line that same side of the street
