PHUKET: Vice Governor Somkiet Sangkaosutthirak led the inspection today of a mangrove-covered area of Phuket's east coast where villagers have been prevented from gaining access.
With about 100 families relying on the road to reach their boats and fish, village chief Saman Bamrungna led a protest of about 50 people to Phuket's Governor Maitree Intrusud at Phuket Provincial Hall in Phuket City yesterday.
Today Vice Governor Somkiet said at east coast Paklok that he will speed the investigation as fast as possible to determine whether claims to a property title by a private company are genuine.
The road is now blocked by a gate declaring the property belongs to Daweesak Sawnyang.
Khun Saman said today that the villagers, from Moo 8, Baan Bang Bangla, could no longer reach Bangka Pier.
''Without access, we cannot reach our boats and cannot fish,'' he told the vice governor and an inspection party of officers from the Land Department and the Royal Forests Department.
