Phuket Park Probe Death Threat: 'Demolisher' Flies In for First-Hand Update

Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Today's Updating Report

PHUKET: Threats to kill one of the investigators in the Phuket national parkland probes have been made, one of the men involved in the 12 investigations said today.

The head of the 12 teams investigating a dozen alleged encroachments on Phuket national parkland flew to Phuket today to pay surprise visits to check the progress of the 12 separate investigations.

The Director General of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, Damrong ''The Demolisher'' Pidech, will be hearing back about progress on the investigations and personally visiting several sites.

News of the threatening telephone calls came today when one of the investigating team heads spoke to Phuketwan about them.

The Director of Sirinath National Park, Cheewapab Cheewatam, said today that progress was being made in the probes but there had been some delays.

''The original deadline was for September 15 but some projects may take a little longer,'' he said. ''I'd say most of the investigations are more than 80 percent complete.

''Some owners have been more helpful than others, and at some, where resorts now have guests, we have to be sensitive to their needs as well.''

All projects have had time to provide their original documents regarding the ownership of the land in question. All the allegations of misappropriation of parkland concern properties bordering Phuket's Sirinath National Park.

Threatening someone is a criminal acts and official complaint to police should be done in order to prosecute those wrongdoers who think they are above normal people.

I am going to open a book on the chances of prosecution/demolition.

At the moment Andaman White Beach and Trisara are 100/1 against and the Frenchman is 50/1 odds on favourite to get shafted.

Trisara on it's website says "Nestling over our own private bay" and "covering over 2 km of private coastline." Since when has the bay and coast been allowed to be privatised?

@ WB

The problem is they actually are above normal people and the law. To imagine they are not is a foolish illusion.

You of all people should know better.

That said, I once wanted to file a claim of a death threat against me with a witness. The police in Phuket town laughed at us and told us to go home.

Next stop for this team must be in Bangniang (Khaolak). Here you can no more walk along the beach. It is cut off by hotels.

@OJ
BangNiang becah in Khao Lak not in the territory of protected National Park.

There are probably poroblems of another kind in Khao Lak, namely foreigner owning through nominees hotels and real estate at the beach/dune zone, like the The S****n hotel at PakWeb beach, who claimed to be owned by one UK person. As we know, Thai authorities claim that all nominees schemes are illegal, and they looks into real owners by evaluating the actual flow of investments money and of benefits from the company.

Perhaps someone should take a look at the national park land adjacent to Renaissance on Mai Khao beach. Casurina trees have already been uprooted near the beach and early signs of construction work are clearly visible.
