PHUKET: Phuket's innovative Phuket Airpark has become embroiled in a row with neighbors over traditional access to local water resources.
When Phuket Airpark opened in January 2009 in eastern Phuket, locals and other Phuket residents flocked to the airfield to see light planes in action.
These days, the welcome for locals appears to be less cordial.
A meeting at Phuket Airpark, which adjoins the Orbortor council office in Paklok, heard yesterday that surrounding residents were no longer being allowed access to a canal pond at the property.
The locals had traditionally grown lilies on the pond for sale to Phuket's temples, and used the canal for fishing.
Phuket Airpark owner Suchat Raksanob said that the villagers could no longer access the water across his property and would have to use an alternative access route.
Vic Governor Somkiat Sangkhowsuttarak, with representatives from the Land Titles Office and Marine Office Region 5, pored over maps yesterday and resolved to do more research before ruling on the issue.

What's there to rule ?? If they hold clear title with no access marked, there's no access. If it's not their pond the idea they have the right to grow items for sale there is just madness. Time for another protest ?
Wake up and join the 21st century, property rights are being codified and that means private land is just that, private. If it ain't yours you cant use it.

Most of us will wait for an expert ruling rather than rely on expert guesswork, thanks. It would be ''madness'' to make a top of the head judgement.
