PHUKET: The most valuable of the Courtyard by Marriott properties on Phuket - the 390-room resort at Patong - is up for sale, along with a second Courtyard by Marriott property at Hua Hin.
Announcement of the proposed sales came a week after the owners of the four Courtyard by Marriott resorts in Thailand - three of them on Phuket - agreed to part company with Marriott International.
News of the sales explains why the partnership, in place since mid-2008, came to an end.
The property will be sold without the restriction of a long-term hotel management contract, giving the buyer complete flexibility in positioning the property to capture Phuket's growing tourism market.
The Courtyard by Marriott Hua Hin is in the southern resort of Cha-am.
The four-star, 243-room hotel was renovated in 2008 and has a comprehensive range of quality hotel and conference facilities.
Like the Phuket property, it is offered free of any management contract, thus giving the buyer the freedom to operate under any brand and take full advantage of Cha-am's popularity as a tourist destination.
No announcement has been made regarding the other Phuket Courtyards at Surin and Kamala. CBRE, an international property consultant in Thailand, has been appointed to sell the resorts.
Last week Philip Bryson, Area Vice President for Marriott in South East Asia, was reported as saying: "We are happy to conclude these discussions with our partners at Destination Properties and we wish them well with the on-going success of these four hotels and we are excited to continue working with them on other existing projects here in Thailand."
All staff at the resorts were to be retained, Phuketwan was told last week.

What a shame to let the courtyard in patong go. Staff and rooms are 10 times better than the Renaissance or the JW!
