Patong Guesthouse Can't Stop Disco Music

Thursday, April 7, 2011
PRECEDENTS could be set by a case being fought by a guesthouse owner in Patong to prevent a nearby discotheque from disturbing his guests.

Jeerasak Burawattanais is seeking to have the music stopped at the XS Disco in South Patong's Prachanukroh Road.

The disco occupies part of a shophouse with guesthouses in surrounding buildings.

Khun Jeerasak took his complaint this week to Siripat Pattakul, Director of Kathu District, for the second time.

His previous complaint led police to mediate a settlement, but Khun Jeerasak says the disco is now too loud again.

Khun Jeerasak's timing was not great. He took over a rented rooms premises near the turnoff from Patong to Karon in February and opened the guesthouse on February 10. The disco opened for business on February 26.

The disco operates from 10pm to 5am, district officers were told, but it has no licence.

Khun Jeerasak is hoping his second appeal for action will have greater impact.

Isn't it strange to read about illegal (!) venues with illegal (!) opening hours, illegal (!) Nepalese workers protesting, meetings held to discuss the illegal (!) excessive bribery to police and authorities, illegal (!) salaeng motorbikes, illegal(!) parking occupation by taxis and tuk tuks etc... It is strange indeed. Even stranger that nothing is done, it all goes on as long as the money flow is going right.

Very well said, Khun Hockey! I do hope that the self-destruction completes its task soon so that we can get back to something like the sweet place we came to.

Came to Thailand in 95 and has been a Phuket resident since 97 ... many a thing has changed some to the better (Shopping..;-) ) but most other things have deteriorated exponentially ... traffic to mention one and the way people communicate as well, seem to be a lot more "anger" among locals and farangs alike...enforcement of law was always an issue and now more than ever (Blockades, traffic, noise, squatting etc etc) and even though I am a positive person and "bothered" to learn the local language and have many local friends..then it is a bit difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel ;-) Hard to see how the present trend will be reversed...and as the old saying goes When in Rome do like the Romans...;-) or leave...we decided on the latter..not leaving Thailand but just moving on to another coastal community in Thailand that still have values ... so all you Romans...enjoy your little Island...hope it will be sorted out one day to the better.

No License and open until 5am!!??
I shake my head and hold a sarcastic grin....This island is an absolute circus....!...Noise, Jetskis, Tuk Tuks...you name it...Laws are blatently broken right under everyones noses...and nothing is done because those who enforce the laws are getting kick backs and therefore do not care...In the same breath mind you, they pretend to hold very important meetings trying to find ways to "compromise" so that everyone is happy...Do they think we are all falling for this?...What a joke....Keep it up boys and girls...as you won't be satisfied until the well runs dry.

All outdoor music is selfish and should be illegal except for the occasional festival or concert.

People are really dumb enough to live or even vacation in Patong, then they have the guts to complain? Been living in Phuket town for months and never any problems with anything there. People are by and large honest and considerate. Prices are low, environment is clean. Patong is a joke and very soon will probably be worse than Pattaya...
