A WELL-KNOWN Phuket beachfront resort is closed for a makeover that includes a name change and a relaunch for Phuket's next high season.
The Club Andaman Beach Resort is to ''undergo a complete transformation into a brand-new contemporary Sino-styled hotel,'' according to a media release.
Operations ceased on April 30 and ''a complete transformation'' of the resort is to begin next month. The Andaman Embrace Resort and Spa is expected to open in December, under new owners, Phuket-based hoteliers Limsup Grand Co., Ltd.
The Club Andaman Beach Resort, operating for more than 20 years, was a seven-storey property with extensive gardens spread across 10 rai. Plans for the Embrace include a 570 square-meter swimming pool, a poolside spa and new dining facilities.
The operators hope to open the first two floors consisting of 78 rooms for the 2011-2012 high season, with a total of 200 units to be refurbished.
Eighteen rustic Thai-style lotus cottages will be retained but renovated to blend with the new Sino-Potuguese ''Phuket Town'' design.
Andaman Embrace Managing Director Salisa Limsakul said: ''We aim to offer luxurious and modern facilities, even for our entry level guests. They can enjoy five-star luxury services at four-star prices.''
She said the Andaman Embrace employees would be ''an entirely new team of dedicated and experienced hospitality professionals, ensuring a smooth transition for repeat guests and a warm welcome for first-time visitors.''
