PHUKET: Torsten Richter, well-known hotelier on Phuket and in Phang Nga, is moving to Bali and the job of being Complex General Manager at the Westin Ubud Resort and Spa, which is due to open on August 31 this year.
He has been on Phuket most recently in a lesser role at the old Sheraton Grande Laguna (now reborn as the Angsana) and for the past few years as GM at Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort.
His replacement as GM is Dominik Stamm, Starwood announced today.
''In his new role,'' the media release says, ''Dominik is responsible for managing the 244-rooms five star Le Meridien Khao Lak Beach & Spa Resort, located on a stunning 13-kilometres Pakweep beach in Phang Nga Bay, Southern Thailand.
''Dominik's career in the hospitality industry extends over 16 years with over nine years in leadership positions in a number of well-established hotels in Thailand, Vietnam, United Kingdom and Switzerland.
''This includes his most recent position, General Manager at the Centara Grand Beach Resort Samui, Thailand. Prior to that Dominik was the General Manager at the Movenpick Hotel Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
''In addition to his career experience, Dominik holds a Bachelor of Art degree in International Hospitality and Tourism Management from Bournemouth University, United Kingdom and was also teaching future hotel management students as an Academic Lecturer and Program Leader at the SHMS (Swiss Hotel Management School) in Leysin, Switzerland.
''Dominik will focus on imparting his knowledge and skills to the local workforce within emphasis on raising the hotel services to the next level and maintain Starwood's uncompromising philosophy of providing first class service standards to guests.
