Telephone: 076 346271 or rsvp@whiteboxrestaurant.com
Open: Some day quite soon.
Address: 247/5 Prabaramee Road, Kalim. On the seafront.
Style: White, stark, modern, trendy, minimalist. Did we mention white?
Price range: The eight-course set menu for Christmas Eve starts with oysters and finishes with strawberries and raspberries and bitter chocolate and home-made English custard for 4200 baht, including a welcoming champagne cocktail and tapas. There's more on Christmas Day. New Year's Eve stretches to 10 courses, with a jazz band and DJ, for 10,000 baht with Moet and Chandon plus what sounds like pretty special music right through.
Specialty: Executive chef Laurent Tollari will have Mediterranean Thai for diners to try, and a very appetising introductory cuisine it sounds. Sounds is the key word because the White Box mixes music, then mixes music with food. Move over Bob Marley, here comes Norah Jones.
What Phuketwan says: The White Box seems to be advertising just about everywhere so we dropped by to check out the scene. A few days before Christmas, the place was still undergoing a last-minute workout. But it does look spectacular against the backdrop of the Kalim stony beach and the occasional cruise liner in the background. There are three spacious levels, so it will be a zoned destination. If the music here is as funky as the advertising makes it sound, then the In Crowd just found a new home. We'll come back some day soon to actually taste the food. You'd have to say that if it lives up to its own publicity, the White Box should be something right out of the . . . ordinary.
How to find it: Not much else along the sea side of the beachfront at Kalim to confuse you.
Parking: Probably going to require a bit of a walk on big nights. Look out for the speedsters aiming to be in Patong in a hurry.
