Best Restaurant of 2008 contender
Telephone: 089 9090339 (reservations or takeaway)
Open: 10am-11pm daily
Address: Foreshore at Cape Panwa
Style: Thai and Western food. Thatch and wood, but a family concern as befits Cape Panwa
Price range: What will it be today? Deep fried battered prawns or a tuna sandwich? Either order will cost you 120 baht. A bottle of Chang is priced at 95/50 baht, large or small.
Specialty: Seafood, with the potential for big, complicated orders that can be put together with 24 hours' notice.
What Phuketwan says: Not to be confused with the 1001 other Sawasdee restaurants on the island. Cape Panwa is not over-endowed with good-value dining options. There are some pricey choices within Sri panwa, the Cape Panwa Hotel, or the Bay, but Sawasdee stands out along the seafront. It's a small, open-air intimate place with a striking wall of photos that include one of HM The King with Elvis Presley. The photographs, and that one especially, elicit a lot of interest. Rope edges the tables and several of them are former treadle sewing machines. The place has been going for 10 years and has a laid-back style epitomised by a sign hanging from a rafter that says: ''In here, the food does not wait for the customer, the customer waits for the food. Thank you.'' The food is usually worth the wait.
How to find it: About the centre of the seafront at Cape Panwa, along from the Aquarium entrance.
Parking: Usually space along the foreshore.
