Owner Wirat Royrin takes a bow with her Simon Star ladyboys

Phuket's Simon Cabaret Now a Star of the City

Tuesday, January 17, 2012
PHUKET: Simon Cabaret, Phuket's famous katoey ladyboy show, is opening another branch in Phuket City, on the opposite side of the island to the Patong original.

Owner Wirat Ruayrin joined some of the performers today at the Metropole Hotel in announcing the grand opening on Thursday night, when Phuket Governor Tri Augkaradacha is expected to do the honors.

While Khun Wirat admits that the performers, recruited from Isarn and Chiang Mai for the show, need another month to polish their act, she sees Simon Star as being every bit as appealing as its Patong equivalent.

The stage is wider and the Phuket City threatre, built to seat 645 and with provision for people to eat dinner if they wish, cost 120-130 million baht.

Three shows will be held nightly at 6pm, 7.45pm and 9.30pm.

Khun Wirat said the two shows were different and the Phuket City version, close to Rajabhat University, was choreographed more with Asian visitors in mind.

A special promotion for southern Thailand is available at 200 baht a seat until February 28, with expat rates at 700 baht for an ordinary seat or 800 baht for a VIP seat.

Thais are half price and there are no reductions for children.

Visitors from other Asian countries would have to pay the same price as all expats, so it's discrimination, not racism.

You can shove this double pricing. I have personally turned away many of my friends and visitors to see the latest shows because of this nonsense of higher prices for farang. Tough you loose the business as my opinion does count and goes out to millions of people. ONE Price for all, you discriminatory people !

Racism, Discrimination, call it what you like..i'm for..ONE PRICE FOR ALL..if Attractions etc want to give discounts etc, let them make loyalty cards or membership cards, that's the fair way of doing it..

We'd prefer to call it what it is, johndev. Some people would even argue that it's positive discrimination. Those who can afford to pay more, pay the higher price. What could be fairer? There are logical arguments on both sides. In an ideal world, everyone would pay what their bank balance indicated they could afford.

Ed your comment to johndev is busted. That argument is like saying I have a house for sale. The poor man can pay 10,000.00 Baht but the rich man can pay 100,000.00 for the same house? HUH! Where in the world does this logic come from?
I am of the opinion if you can't afford it, you can't buy it. Therefore, ONE price for all humans.

It's not my argument, but it's the response that would come from non-English readers if they were given the opportunity. House prices are not comparable because of the enormous market-driven variations. If the same theory was put to work on entry tickets - market sets the price - it would be equally fair. Try keeping the rain off your head under a couple of tickets to Simon Star and you'll understand the difference.
