The Logos Hope: another sad chapter closes for Phuket book lovers

Phuket's Ship for Book Readers Shelved

Thursday, August 4, 2011
UPDATE

Officials confirmed today that Logos Hope ''will no longer be able to make the planned visit, due to technical reasons and a necessary change in schedule.''

Original Report

PHUKET: The much-anticipated visit of floating book fair Logos Hope to Phuket this month is not going to take place, a Thai crewman has told Phuketwan.

The vessel, laden with books to please readers of all interests and abilities, has been forced to cancel its visit to Phuket because of engine problems that need attention, the crewman said today.

Phuketwan is seeking confirmation that the visit to Phuket, from August 17-27, has been, as it were, put back on the shelf.

Avid readers on Phuket have suffered from a previous cancellation when a sister ship, Duolos, cut its Phuket visit to undergo maintenance in Singapore instead.

The Logos Hope has thousands of books on board and is crewed by about 400 volunteers from 45 countries, including one Thai.

Sorry to hear it's not coming as I know the other Logos ships are very good at what they bring to the places they visit.

Well it is sad news for the Tuk-Tuk/taxi drivers who would have probably charged 1000 baht to get to the ship

Is 'engine trouble' code wording for 'not prepared to suffer the dramas of the Taxi/Tuk Tuk M*****'?
