FC Phuket is green for Go in the Hulks' second half of the season

Phuket's Football Hopes Ride High With Fresh New Talent

Wednesday, July 27, 2011
PHUKET: FC Phuket begins the second half of its bid to win a Division One title on Saturday with a brace of new, exciting additions to its playing list.

That's the good news for Phuket's growing band of Phuket Hulk fans. The bad news for Phuket fans: only seven of the remaining 17 matches are at home in Phuket City.

This makes Phuket's task of rising to the top from its current mid-table ninth spot a tall order indeed. FC Phuket in its Division One matches so far has failed to win a single game away from home.

Still, recent performances both away and at home in the FA Cup and Toyota Cup have Phuket fans dreaming again of a Division One title, if not this season then next season.

The Phuket Hulks have been reinvigorated mid-season with a posse of new imports to the playing list that should improve Phuket's position on the ladder to a point where they can have a legitimate crack at the Division One title next year.

Phuket coach Sompong Wattana will probably be offered a new contract beyond this season if he can quickly turn the mix of old and new Phuket players into a Hulk team capable of playing as well away as they do at home, where adoring fans have pushed up levels of interest in the side to record heights.

New to the FC Phuket squad mid-season are French goalkeeper Jonathan Matjas, Boubacar Ssoufou from Muanthong United, Aussean Nissim from TTM Pitchit, Jongrak Pakdee from BG and Nithipong Somsuwan from Nonthaburi FC.

Sunday's first outing is an away test against Rajapracha Thailand FC. Hulks fans on Phuket will be keen to see how the revitalised side performs. A win would dramatically lift excitement levels and hopes for the future.

After adding players of this quality to our injury free squad we should find ourselves in a promotion pushing position, maybe going on to emulate the historic fc phuket dream team of 1985.
