THAI products from all over the country will be on sale to taste or use at the fourth annual OTOP Fair from February 3-12 at the public park in Saphan Hin, Phuket City.
About 200 booths will be selling products developed and made in the community economic development program, One Tambon One Product (One village, one product).
Handmade bags, local food and snacks such as crispy pork skin, silk from the Northeast, wood carvings, souvenirs, batik, fruit sweets, clothing, buffalo horn carvings, silver jewellery, coconut shell decorative items, bamboo products, stone mortars and stone/marble carvings are among the items that will be on sale.
The fair starts on Tuesday and will be open from 9am to 10pm each day.
Opening ceremonies will be held on February 5 from 7pm-10pm.
Stage shows, the ubiquitous katoey (ladyboy) contests and local food contests will be held each day.
There will also be training sessions offered for various vocations.
Somsak Songnui, Chief of Community Development Provincial Office, said the project will help the local community earn some more income and support creative product development.
It will also help local people expand their experience in selling and developing products, he said.
He expects tourists from Thailand and around the world to attend.
The OTOP Fair, coming soon after the Old Phuket festival, is yet another reason why Phuket should be renamed the Festival Island.
