PHUKET: A four-day musical tribute on Phuket will mark the birthday of HM The King this year with a free festival of jazz, and much more.
The event, known as the Phuket Musiq Festival, will be held at the Saphan Hin public park in Phuket City from December 2 to December 5, the day that marks The King's 84th birthday.
Organised at a cost of six million baht by the Phuket Provincial Administrative Organisation and sponsored by the Singha Group, the event aims to attract musicians from all over Thailand and the world.
All kinds of special tributes are expected throughout Thailand for The King this year, and Phuket has chosen to acknowledge his skill as a jazz musician and composer.
From 5pm to 11pm nightly, audiences will be able to eat local food and listen to top musicians. A special exhibition will celebrate The King as ''Father of Love'' and charities and non-government organisations will have booths in a nearby cashew tree grove.
Nearby is the new 60-million baht light and sound fountain, which is bound to offer shows each evening. Saphan Hin has always been popular for festivals and facilities continue to improve.
Ambassadors and Phuket's honorary consuls are expected to be among the special guests, with a live broadcast scheduled for NBT on December 5.
Among the musicians and singers who have already confirmed their attendance are Todd Tongdee, Lanna Commins, Beat Siam by Khun Inn, Ziv Eithan from Israel, World Jam, Gnawa from Morocco, and Akha from Chiang Rai.
