PHUKET: In rainbow hues, Phuket Pride 2013 has announced its program for April 22-28 and is aiming to set new standards for the festival.
''Welcome to Phuket,'' says the group, adding that Phuket is ''One of the Most Welcoming Destinations for The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Here in Thailand.''
Last year's innovative first event has prompted the Phuket Loves You Club to make the Phuket 2013 version a celebration of the theme, ''Same Same Not Different.''
April 21 brings a Pre-Pride Pool Party at CC Hideaway from 4pm-10pm.
Events begin more seriously on April 22 with a ten-pin bowling competition, a Gay Quiz Night and the Soi Paradise Pride street party from 10pm to 11pm.
Volleyball and five-a-side football are featured during the week, with highlights including a screening of ''Living With the Tiger'' at Prince of Songkhla University, and big stage events nightly in Patong from April 26.
The Grand Parade takes place at 4pm on April 27.
Last year's Phuket Pride Week raised over 300,000 baht for charities and the organisers hope to do even better this year.

Dear Editor, Is there any chance of you getting this distinctly unattractive photo of someone sticking their tongue out off the front page ? It seems to have been there for ages and I never read what it was about until today - surely you can come up with a better photo to promote this event. Here's hoping.

We have nothing against tongues, John.
