PHUKET: The 33 sailors who competed in the second edition of the Phuket Dinghy Series at the weekend were welcomed with glorious high season weather at Nai Yang Beach.
The first time at Nai Yang Beach, organisers of the Phuket Dinghy Series have this year selected three different racing areas allowing sailors to experience different sailing conditions and ensuring seamanship is tested over the three event series.
Nai Yang Beach, a popular spot for kiteboarding in Phuket's low season, proved a challenge to participating sailors from Phuket, southern Thailand and Sattahip, with unexpected light winds for the first race, which grew to a steady breeze allowing three races to be completed each day.
In the Optimist Class, Sattahip-native Anapat Ngarmdee continued his winning ways from the first series event taking five wins from six races, slipping up in race three with a third, and is class winner for the second series event. A tight battle ensued for second and third places with Sukanya Saimarn's consistency beating Akapoj Kankeaw into third.
In the Laser Class, Trirat Manthong scored three wins from six to take first overall from Chut Dawruang and Jittawat Boonrat in second and third respectively.
In the overall series, after two discards, results are as follows:
Optimist Class
1st Anapat Ngarmdee (10)
2nd Akapoj Kankeaw (23)
3rd Teerapong Tokratoak (28)
